Meeting Highlights

Highlights from last night’s town board meeting:

A citizen whose house recently burned down on Fountain Lane expressed concerns over several years of his dealings with the Hope Mills Police Department. He said some named officers were friendly and helpful, but certain other officers had called him and/or his teenaged son a racial slur, harassed his son and family in various ways, and continuously over a couple of years prevented him from getting police reports for accident claims, before someone referred him to the state level, where no report had ever been filed.

Another citizen encouraged the board to consider some appearance options over the next few years at the church/former parish hall property.

A non-contiguous annexation request has been filed for a Caliber Collision auto body repair complex at the corner of Camden Rd. and George Owen Rd.

An initial zoning request will be filed for a planned Dollar General at 4017 S. Main St. near Cameron Rd.

The board saw a presentation from the NC Wildlife about the Green Growth Toolbox for counties, municipalities, and developers to protect wildlife spaces.

A 1 hour, 45 minute closed session for a personnel matter led to no action taken.
