HM BOC 7/21 MEETING MINUTES

hopemillssealAt Monday nights’s four-hour-long Board of Commissioners meeting, commissioners:

–recognized the Hope Mills Angels 10U softball team for winning the state championship. They go on to their World Series, which starts August 3 in Myrtle Beach.

–presented the town website, which still needs some modifications and customizations, but will be ready “soon.”

–voted to rezone two properties already in the town limits for commercial uses: one at 3508 Legion Rd. will be a gas station/convenience store; the second is currently a house at 2623 Hope Mills Rd.

–voted to initially zone a set of properties at the corner of Hwy. 162 and Legion Rd. from residential to commercial to allow for a Walmart Neighborhood Market gas station/etc. and several outparcels. The Zoning Board is slated to discuss this zoning at a special meeting at 4 p.m. on July 28 before the property can be annexed.

–saw a presentation on changes to sanitation pickup routes and plans for future expansions up and down Main St, and

–voted to pursue a “design/build” process in the dam repairs, rather than a “design/bid/build” process, because it would hopefully be quicker and more appropriate given the town’s situations. They voted to amend the budget to include $30,000 for initial attorney’s fees to get the RFQ/RFP process started, and to ask Kevin Lugo to serve again as an owner’s representative in the design/build process.
